Workshop: Contact Improvisation & Axis Syllabus @ Gothenburg, Sweden

  • Nia Movement 55 Nordostpassagen Linnéstaden Göteborg, Västra Götalands län, 413 11 Sweden (map)

Contact improvisation workshop with Sebastian Grubb in Gothenburg!

Contact Improvisation emerged as a practice for researching athletic duets in the U.S. in the early 1970’s. Since then the CI world has expanded considerably and many voices and adjacent disciplines have been woven into how CI is practiced now. In Grammar of Gravity, we’ll focus on activating the full dynamic range of CI, so that we can dance among its many stations. We’ll give particular focus to the skills that support more athletic moments and movement, including tumbling, lifting, flying and falling. We’ll also work toward more complex partnering situations, such as trio and group dances.

For whom?

To participate this weekend you need to have previous experience of contact improvisation and feel comfortable in the form. We suggest at least a beginner-course and a handful of jams.

This included 10 years as a principal dancer and assistant teacher for Scott Wells & Dancers, a modern dancetheater performance company centering athletic Contact Improvisation in its artmarking.
