About the Classes
BodyWAGGING: Axis Syllabus / Dance
In this class we'll apply information from biomechanics and functional anatomy to movement phrases. We'll study support architecture in a variety of postures and sequences, developing our ability to integrate the whole body for fluid movement.
Acrobatic Flow: Movement Exploration
This class combines acrobatic maneuvers, floor-based flow dancing and handstands. We’ll work with strategies for loading hands/wrists, accessing your 'backspace', and generating power for quick twitch action.
AGILE BEAST: Social Animals
As human primates, we evolved with specific movement patterns that shaped our bodies, reflexes and coordinations. Together we'll crawl, climb, run and throw. And we'll provide helpful resistance for each other to develop dynamic strength with interactive exercises and a variety of movement challenges.
Contact Improvisation & Movement Games
These sessions focuses on foundational CI techniques and partnering strategies, taught in a playful and engaging way. Participants will develop their skills and abilities through contact-based exercises that lead to exciting dances and apply what we have studied in the other classes.
About Spiral Camp
Spiral Camp was founded in 2019 in the San Francisco Bay Area by Shira Yaziv and Sebastian Grubb.
Our workshops build community through dance, acrobatics, contact improvisation, somatics, creative movement and functional anatomy. We're inspired to help participants improve their movement quality, learn new skills and connect with others.
Our participants come from different movement backgrounds. Some are strong in a particular discipline and want to have more variety in how they train and move. Others feel more like beginners but are eager to learn and have fun in a collaborative environment. And some are movement professionals and coaches, looking to expand their training and teaching knowledge.
About the Teachers
Shira enjoys encouraging people to move in new ways while learning skills and being creative. Her background is in Capoeira, Circus Arts and Dance. Shira is the co-founder and owner of Athletic Playground, a dynamic indoor play-space, inspiring physical play through a wide variety of movement classes. She has been helping students expand their acrobatic abilities and movement potential all over the world since 2000.
Sebastian is an award-winning movement coach and dance artist based in Copenhagen and California. He has taught and performed contemporary dance since 2007, touring throughout the Bay Area, across the U.S. and abroad. From 2009-2024 he ran Sebastian's Functional Fitness, providing outdoor exercise classes and personal training in San Francisco. Sebastian is also the creator of AGILE BEAST, a movement education program that contextualizes modern fitness training within an evolutionary framework. He helps clients and students integrate their full body toward dynamic movement, drawing from functional fitness, dance, biomechanics, somatics and athletics.
